Foundation History

In 1991, the Arsenal Heights Civic League was established in the southeast quadrant of what is today the Holy Cross Neighborhood. Recognizing the need for a structured approach to community building, the Civic League was formed with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, allowing charitable donations to be tax-deductible.

As the Holy Cross Neighborhood continued to grow with active community members, it became evident that the strengths of the two neighboring areas should be unified. In 2016, Arsenal Heights merged with the Holy Cross Neighborhood, enhancing both regions. This merger resulted in a more abundant volunteer base for neighborhood cleanups and the sharing of the Arsenal Heights 501(c)(3) designation with Holy Cross Neighborhood. To unify the groups under a single cause, the 501(c)(3) was renamed from the Arsenal Heights Civic League to the Holy Cross Neighborhood Foundation.

Today

The Holy Cross Neighborhood Foundation remains steadfast in its dedication to building both physical and social infrastructure that connects neighbors and fosters contributions to the community. The foundation’s primary goal is to maintain and preserve the historic near eastside neighborhood, ensuring it remains a beautiful and inviting place for all residents and visitors.

Through its vision and mission, the Holy Cross Neighborhood Foundation continues to champion the cause of creating a thriving, inclusive community. Its efforts in merging strengths, enhancing volunteerism, and preserving the neighborhood’s heritage exemplify the foundation’s commitment to fostering a better future for all who call Holy Cross home.

Donations can be made online to the HCNF’s Stripe account.
