Neighborhood Cleanup

Event Info

Want a great way to spend a crisp morning outside, meet some neighbors, and help keep the neighborhood looking beautiful? Come join us for the Neighborhood Cleanup!

We’ll work in small teams to pick up trash and perform other small beautification chores around the neighborhood.

We’ll provide gloves and trash bags and have some pickers. Bringing shovels, wheelbarrows, and other helpful equipment is encouraged, but not required. Make sure you put your name on your tools!

Where to go

Meet up at 9:00 am for coffee, donuts, and location assignment at the offices of ReDev:
1017 E Michigan St.
Indianapolis, IN 46202

We’ll also hand out gloves and other tools.

Want to get a head start?
Or, want to help out but not sure you can make it on Saturday?

There are a few ways you can help out in advance. If you do any pre-cleaning make sure you email info@indyholycross.org to let us know where the piles are for pick-up!

Storm drain clearing

There are a number of storm drains that need cleaning. Take a look at your street or one nearby and you might find one that needs attention. Storm drain debris can be left beside the drain in a pile. Check the weather to make sure the pile won’t wash back in before the clean-up day!

Curb cleaning

Curbs in the neighborhood often need to have the debris gathered up and weeds pulled. If you shovel or sweep debris into piles, make sure they are large piles and that there are only a couple of piles on each block. Smaller piles are harder for our cleaning partners to pick up. And keep them loose; trash bags also make them harder to gather due to the weight.

Making Piles

Make sure you follow these guidelines so that our partners can pick up the debris!

  • Leaf and limb debris on curbs need to be consolidated in piles more than 20 feet apart to accommodate the picker truck. Here’s a great tip: Use your snow shovel to clear the curb and direct the mess into piles!
  • Neighbors should make an effort to have the curb pile locations identified to Amanda Wade at awade@c21scheetz.com prior to MCHD’s Saturday morning pickup so that they know where to go.
  • MCHD is limited to what they can pick up– No electronics, rocks, or liquid chemicals, please.

Don’t forget to renew your KIBI Adopt-A-Block

We want to maintain our high adoption rate for KIB Adopt-A-Block. Please adopt a block via the KIB website – some of you are already cleaning your blocks and you might as well enjoy the perks – free tools, free plants/trees, etc.
